I'm working on a Yume Nikki fan game at the moment. It's slow going as I fumble uselessly around RPG Maker, arguably one of the simpler game building software available, but every time the game manages not to crash it's an achievement in my eyes.

Of course when working on anything you get ideas of what sort of direction to go in, events to add and the like, but sometimes you also get an idea which doesn't fit into the context of it at all but seems like a shame to discard. After downloading a couple of different fan games, I wondered if there were any attempts to simulate Yume 2kki by western developers and the answer seems to be...kind of? Most of them seem to be abandoned.

Whatever the reasons behind abandoning them (I'll guess organisation is probably a biggie), it's still a shame that most of them don't get off the ground. A collaboration sounds like great fun, sharing the creativity of so many people into one project. Part of 2kki's popularity comes from how diverse it's content is irrespective of the quality.

There isn't a huge point to this journal, it's just me musing.

It hadn't really occured to me but one of the themes in some of my pixel art is doing enemies from the Legend of Zelda series, which is slightly odd for me because it's not a game series I play constantly.

I think just having a central theme makes me feel more productive in producing pixel art and being able to leave something and come back to it really helps me see how I've progressed (normally by marvelling at how many colours I've left in that aren't needed).

It might be something to take more seriously in future, but for now I'm going to edit this journal whenever I make a new one to try and get a collection going. If there end up being more than 15 (100x100's) then I'll pop 'em in their own category in the gallery. Like my own personal model collection!

If anyone has any suggestions for things to tackle, I'm all ears.

Majora's Mask-

After being asked about graphics tablets, I recommended my Bamboo Fun to a friend of a friend for a cheaper but still functional tablet that works very well for the job at hand. "It's reliable and harder wearing than you'd expect, I've had mine for four years and it's still going".

So for whatever reason the pen itself has gone strange in the eraser end, and after taking part I've made the whole thing SO MUCH WORSE so unless it goes "eeeeeeeh jus' messin' which ya" its all over for it.

I would buy a replacement pen but this tablet is old now so replacements seem to come from South Korea and I'm not comfortable ordering stuff overseas with a shaky return policy.

So shit, really.

I've been pretty lax responding to comments over the past few months, so I thought I'd make this journal just to say a big thank you for the favourites, comments and watches. Even if I haven't responded, I do read everything and I appreciate it a lot.
